Sunday September 1 & Monday September 2, 10am—5pm both days. Deer Path Art League’s 67th Annual Art Fair on the Square held in beautiful historic Market Square in downtown Lake Forest, Illinois. The community of Lake Forest is located 30 miles north of Chicago. This festival is a highly rated, well-attended event of long standing. Art Fair on the Square is the Art League’s signature event and helps us fulfill our mission to bring high quality visual arts to the community. On Wait List

Saturday and Sunday, September 7-8, 2024,  Downers Grove Fine Arts Festival The Downers Grove Fine Arts Festival will be celebrating 47 years this fall. The festival is held in the middle of award-winning, historic, Downtown Downers Grove which is located 22 miles from Chicago’s loop.  Direct access to the BNSF rail line brings patrons from around the region and the City of Chicago to the festival. The festival is currently scheduled to be held in the middle of Main Street. Live music, boutiques, cafes and a children’s art area will complement the high caliber of art that will be present at the show. The show is a community favorite.

Saturday and Sunday, September 21-22, 2024, Edward’s Place Fine Art Fair,700 North 4th Street, Springfield, IL 62702 In its 36th year, the Edwards Place Fine Art Fair offers a park-like setting for a dedicated following to shop the wares of artists from across the country and around the region. On the campus of the Springfield Art Association, the fair includes up to 80 artist’s booths, interactive art activities for all ages, artist demonstrations, live and DJ music, food vendors, tours of Edwards Place historic house museum, and a used book sale. The fair is always held the third full weekend in September. 10 AM to 5PM on Saturday and 10AM to 4 PM on Sunday.

 Beyond Wool and Cotton

If you work with fibers, knit, weave, etc., come to explore all the options you can use. At the Weavers Guild South meeting on May 18th at noon at the Matteson Public Library (801 School Ave,, Matteson, IL), Betty Burian Kirk will introduce you to an abundance of fibers. Learn about animal fibers like yak and musk ox, plant fibers like ramie and lotus as well as regenerated manufactured fibers like rose, pearl and mint. Find out what the most expensive legal fiber is.

3-Hour Seminar
Learn the history of how Japanese bookbinding came to be and the various styles they used. Participants will learn the traditional way (stab binding) to create two styles of bookbinding to make journals. Participants will learn the modern technique of embossing to create the cover of the journals.
Required Equipment: 12″ 2×4 and Hammer
Prerequisite Skills: No prerequisite experience required
